ILLW 2018 is over

Well that's it for ILLW 2018...many thanks to all KARG members that attended and helped make it a success again. Propagation was not very good for the most part, with 20M and 40M providing most QSO's. We ran all modes - SSB, CW and FT8. The Hexbeam worked a treat.

Thanks to Lighthouse Manager, Wendy, for her fantastic hospitality and assistance. It was very much appreciated.

Finally thanks to EI4DP and all the visitors that came along to our talks on Amateur Radio over the weekend. We hope that...

Silent Key Tony EI2IZ

It is with deep sorrow that we report that Tony Siviter EI2IZ has become a SK on Tuesday 31st July. Tony had been resident in the University Hospital Kerry for some time. Tony from Ballinskelligs was a former member of the KARG, and will be sadly missed by his many friends and fellow radio amateurs. Our sincere condolences to his XYL and family

Transatlantic Cable 2018

KARG commemorated the 152nd Anniversary of the successful Transatlantic cable, on Friday 27th July. Both voice and CW QSO's were made on the day with VO1TAC at the Hearts Content Cable station. The collaboration this year with the IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) proved very successful. The IET made their CW QSO with Hearts Content at 2.30pm local, and then held two one-hour lectures, which were attended by approx 60 visitors.

International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend 2018

KARG will activate Cromwell Point Lighthouse (IE0001) at Valentia, Co Kerry once again over the weekend of August 18th and 19th.
Worked All Ireland Square = V47
Maidenhead Square = IO41uw
It s planned to put on two stations over the full duration of the ILLW 2018 event, covering both phone, data and CW.

Operations will begin on Friday when set up will begin, until Sunday evening when stations will be disassembled.
